Living outside the major flyway areas, our puddle duck hunts consist of a morning set for a couple hours or so and then some jump shooting for the remainder of the hunt. I hunt mostly lakes and ponds in the area using traditional cork L.L. Bean decoys. We mostly see Black ducks, Mallards and Wood ducks and geese do frequent some of the areas as well. Jump shooting for those who might not be familiar with the term is a practice of stealthily sneaking into position on resting or feeding birds and then shooting them as they “jump” off the water, there is on occasion some pass shooting too.
Second season does offer some additional opportunity at Bufflehead, Golden Eye and Hooded Mergansers.
Coastal puddle duck hunts can be added to any sea duck hunt.
Puddle Duck Hunting Rates:
$200.00/hunter or $100.00/hunter when added to a Sea Duck Hunt.
I also guide other hunts in Maine for Rabbits, Deer, Moose and Turkeys, but my passion is Duck Hunting, especially on the BIG water of the Atlantic Ocean for Maine Sea Ducks.
Traditions Guide Service is located in Southern Maine on Mousam Lake. Lodging is seasonal, from April through November. The Mousam Lake Cottage sleeps up to 6 people and is only a few feet from the shoreline. There are docks for boat tie up and the shoreline is sandy and gradual which is great for swimming. Fishing on the lake is good and yields just about all the freshwater species that the state has to offer.
Whether it’s peace or purpose, Traditions Guide Service can meet your needs.
Remember, Traditions don’t just happen; they need to be passed along
